ASTM A106 Grade B Pipe (A106M - 18) is a Standard Specification for Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service. ASTM A106 pipe is constantly delivered by the seamless method and can be bent, coiled and flanged. Carbon steel astm a106 pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B Pipe sizes, less than 2" is it normally delivered as a cold drawn product. 2" and up are usually hot finished. SA106 pipe is expected for use in high temperature applications. If any test specimen shows flaws it can be discarded and substituted for another test specimen. Before testing, if a specimen has scribe scratches, a retest shall be allowed. A retest shall also be allowed if a specimen breaks in an inside or outside surface flaw.
ASTM A106 Grade B specification covers a carbon steel pipe for high-temperature service. These ASTM A106 Grade B Pipe are reasonable for welding, bending, flanging, and similar forming operations. Mechanical testing of the specimens shall include tensile, bending, flattening, hydrostatic and nondestructive electric tests. Specimens undergoing bending tests shall consist of the area cut from a pipe. For flattening tests, the specimens shall be smooth on the ends and burr-free, with the exception of when made on crop ends. SA106 Welded pipes are normally more readily available than SA106 seamless pipe. The longer lead time required for carbon steel astm a106 pipe, ASTM A106 Gr.B Seamless Pipe can not only make timing problematic, but it also allows more time for the price of the materials to fluctuate.

A106 Pipe is the black carbon steel pipe, A106 Gr B Sch 40, A106 Gr B Erw Pipe and ASTM A106 Seamless Pipe for high-temperature and high-pressure service. ASTM/ASME A-106/SA-106 grade seamless pipes are one of our most widely used grade of carbon steel and are readily available ex-stock for all standard thicknesses up to SCH160. These A106 Seamless Pipes, SA106 Pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B Line pipe are available in three grades A, B, and C of varying strength. NPS 1-1/2 and under may be either A106 grade b hot finished or A106 grade b cold drawn. NPS 2 and larger shall be A106 grade b hot finished unless otherwise specified. Surface finish standards are outlined in the specification. SA106 Material, ASTM A106 Grades A and ASTM A106 B are obtainable in most sizes and schedule numbers, SA106 Grade B permits higher carbon and manganese contents than Grade A. The A106 Grade B Pipe, ASTM A106 Grade B Schedule 40 Pipe and A106 Black Pipe supplied by ASTM Seamless Pipes has a maximum carbon content of 0.23%.

Carbon steel is a large category of steel that encompasses many varying chemical compositions. Each type of carbon steel requires different considerations when welding. For example if you choose Low carbon steel to weld which is typically the most readily welded steel in a room temperature environment. These low carbon steel suitable for welding include C1008, C1018, A36, A1011 and A500. Medium carbon steel such as C1045 typically requires preheat and post-heat treatment to avoid weld cracking. High carbon steel is even more prone to weld cracking than the other two groups of carbon steel. Welding high carbon steel will most likely require very thorough preheating and post-heating processes to avoid this. It could also require special welding filler metals.
ASTM A106 Grade B Pipe welding is used extensively for pipe welding, aerospace, aviation, biomedical implants, fabrication of race cars, choppers, etc.

ASTM A106 grade b hardness : No hardness specifiec in SA-106. A106 don't have an imposed Brinell test value but approx 110-150 usually on new pipe A106 grade B. Grade A234 WPB is made from A106 grade B and have an imposed value of 197 HB maximum

ASTM A53 is Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated, Welded and Seamless.
ASTM A106 is Standard Specification for Seamless Carbon Steel Pipe for High-Temperature Service.
A 53 can be welded seam or seamless depending on how it is specificed for purchase. It is a general steel pipe spec and covers galvanized pipe as well as black pipe.
A106 is a similar pipe in chemical composition but is intened for high temperature service (up to 750 Degs F). It is a seamless pipe.
At least in the US, there is usually A53 for welded pipe while A106 is seamless. If you ask for A53 in the US they will quote A106 as an alternate.
For example when we compare between A106-B and A53-B seamless from chemical composition point of view, we find that :
1. A106-B contains silicon, min. 0.10% where A53-B has zero%, and silicon is the important element for improving the heat resistance criteria.
2. A106-B contains manganese 0.29-1.06%, where A53-B 1.2%.
3. A106-B contains low sulfur and phosphorus, max. 0.035% where A53-B contains 0.05 and 0.045% respectively.

Because they have different scope and specify different type of pipe, then the manufacturing process and required quality control test and inspection will be different to each other.
